Abstract
This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between mean blood pressure and stress perception. The blood pressure was assessed by the random zero muddler method and assessment of psychosocial stress was done by -the GARS(Global Assessment of Recent Stress) scale, which had developed by Linn(1985?1986).
Study subjects were 412 persons who lived island and aged over 18 years. The results were as follows ;
1. Both mean systolic and diastolic blood pressure of males were higher than that of females through all age group.
2. Mean blood pressure was increased by age in both sexes.
3. Current smokers had higher mean blood pressure than those who never smoked, and drinkers had higher mean blood pressure than nondrinkers.
4. Mean blood pressure was increased by degree of obesity in both sexes, but statistically not significant.
5. The total scores of stress were significantly correlated with diastolic blood pressure.
6. Factors affecting systolic blood pressure were obesity, age, drinking, sex, urine glucose, and smoking ; the determinants of coefficient was 0.16129. Factors affecting diastolic blood pressure were age, stress, sex, the determinants of coefficient was 0.08512.
